In the big, sunny preschool classroom there are 7 interest areas (dramatic play, blocks, art, science, books, technology, and manipulatives) where children spend a significant amount of time both morning and afternoon engrossed in free play…the work of childhood.
It is during this “free play” that children are learning critical social skills like how to take turns, negotiate and problem solve. There is a balance between teacher directed and child initiated activities. Educational concepts are introduced in a non-stressful way and are introduced through play. Setting children up for success in all areas of development and building their self-image is the role of the preschool teacher in the preschool classroom.
